About Trips for Knitters

The name may be new, but Trips for Knitters started in 2007 with the Y2Knit Experience Tuscany.

Susan Wolcott originated Knitting in Tuscany (as it is now known) after several years of organizing and hosting knitting retreats throughout the United States. At the time, it seemed that every yarn shop and designer was involved in weekend retreats and Susan envisioned taking the experience to an international setting. Tuscany was her first choice as it holds so much history and romance.

Rather than a whirlwind tour or multi-stop week, the philosophy of Trips for Knitters is to allow participants to have an opportunity to experience the richness of local culture. Resting in one place allows everyone to truly relax, catch up on sleep, get to know each other, and to spend significant time knitting. Each year a knitting project is introduced and worked throughout the week, along with daily activities that acquaint the knitters with the nearby area.

Susan can't resist traveling and wants to take knitters with her to unique and special places.

About Susan Wolcott

2017 marked a year of change for Susan Wolcott, owner of Trips for Knitters. Having owned Y2Knit yarn shop in Funkstown, Maryland, then moving to Shepherdstown to open Yarnability in early 2012, Susan decided to semi-retire to allow more time and energy for Trips for Knitters, family, and other pursuits.

Susan lives in Shepherdstown, WV where she and her partner, Bob, enjoy their creekside cottage, the wildlife, and their gardens. Abigail, the cat, has retired to a comfy chair.

Prior to owning a yarn shop and offering knitting retreats, Susan worked in the healthcare industry as a Registered Nurse and in healthcare informatics, which took her into the technology field where she learned project management, marketing, and other useful skills in start-up ventures. She has a masters degree from George Mason University in Social and Organizational Learning and is trained as a Life Coach through the Coaches Training Institute.

Susan is the mother of two sons and two daughters, grandmother to six grandsons, one granddaughter (no, she’s not spoiled) and two great-grandsons. Susan’s most joyous times are those spent with her grandchildren.

About Paige Sato, Associate Trip Coordinator

Paige Sato, a veteran knitter and new sewist, joined Trips for Knitters in 2017, as Associate Trip Coordinator. A former yarn store owner, Paige has always loved a challenge, be that selling yarn, traveling, or long distance running!

Paige brings with her tons of enthusiasm for both fiber arts and travel. She enjoys knitting from patterns, and occasionally creating her own masterpieces. In addition to working with Susan and Trips for Knitters, Paige also manages Christmas at Sea, the longest continuously operating U.S. charitable knitting program, where she collects upwards of 25,000 hats and scarves that are distributed to mariners worldwide.

Paige lives in New Jersey with her husband and three children, two of whom just recently left home for college. To make up for the lack of daily commotion, she and her youngest adopted a dog (#Philthedog).
